In the late 1960's the Conn family, (Harold, DJ, Jay & Pat) were introduced to metal detecting by a family friend. The hobby grew to obsess the entire family, and from that hobby, a business was born. The Wampum Hut became one of the first gathering places for those interested in the art of metal detecting. People would talk, exchange ideas, locations, invite others to admire their "find of the week", and even swap a few lies. Members of the Wampum Hunter metal detector club held potlucks, registered hunts, and charity hunts, with thousands of dollars being raised for many charities over the years. We've seen third generation family hunters, mourned our losses (including that of our favorite yarn-spinner Harold Conn, in 2007) and weathered controversy, restrictions and a slump in interest in the mid 90's. But people are once again beginning to realize what a great family hobby metal detecting can be, and with the current price of gold, some people are coming to realize that it can also be a lucrative hobby as well! We've weathered it all, and will continue to bring you the fine Tesoro line of metal detectors! But just as important, we'll also bring you over 45 years of metal detecting experience, so you can get the most out of your machine!

Conn's Wampum Bird has adorned the Wampum Hut since the early 1980's. Gracing the top of a single-wide trailer, the bird has provided an easily-recognizable Garden City landmark for those who wish to purchase metal detectors, gold-panning equipment, or just shoot the breeze about metal-detecting.
